Let's go to Batam!

Day 1

We couldn't take any vacations during the pandemic. So my parents decided to go to Batam for a family vacation. Batam is in Indonesia and it is an island very close to Singapore. You can take a ferry or a plane but we took a ferry. I took less than one hour! The boat ride was very bumpy!

The people from the hotel came to pick us from the sea port. We took a bus to the hotel. We got to the hotel at 9 am, but the check-in was at 2 pm so we had to wait 5 hours! We explored the hotel grounds and found a huge farm with 1 iguana, 9 cats, 2 parakeets, and a few chickens and hens. Daddy later told me there were turkeys too!

Then we decided to go shopping and exchange Singapore Dollar for Indonesian Rupiah. 10,000 Rupiah is $1. We took a cab to the shopping center. It took 40 minutes. The shopping center was called Nagoya Hill shopping mall. We first exchanged then we bought water. Because everyone was super hungry, we ate lunch at a Chinese restaurant. I had dim sum and fried rice. We finished in 30 minute!

After lunch we went clothes shopping. I got pajamas and my brother got shirts. I saw a traditional Batam dance. At the end of the dance, the dancers gave me a leaf to eat. The leaf didn't taste good and I spit it out.

Then we went back to the to check into the villa. The villa was big and beautiful and even had balcony over the water. I especially liked the mosquito tend over the bed because it looks like a tend and it feels like I am in a tent.

After unpacking, I ate snack at the bar for high tea. Then Then I went swimming in the infinity pool with my toy shark.

After swimming, we ate dinner while listening to a band playing old songs like the Beatles. I fell asleep while listening to the songs. While I was sleeping, my brother was watching a magic show.

My daddy carried me back to the villa. It was perfect first day because it was my first day in Batam and I had super fun! Tomorrow I am going to do starting with the letter F...

Day 2

I woke up and went to the café for their breakfast buffet. I had sausage, coco crunch cornflakes, baked beans and porridge. It was delicious! I liked the coco crunch the most because it was made out of cornflakes. After breakfast I ate a piece of kueh. Kueh is a kind of sweet. It was pink and blue and wiggly like a jelly!

After breakfast, my brother and I went to the beach. We rode on a Stryker. Stryker is an inflatable boat that attached to a jet ski or a motorboat. The jet ski drags the Stryker at full speed. It was amazing!

After Stryker I swam in the Infinity Pool. When you are in the pool and looking straight, it looks like you are connected to the ocean. It was cool.

After swimming we went fishing! We got two fishing poles and prawns as bait. We put the prawn deep into the hook and lowered it down into the ocean. But the fishes were smart enough to avoid the hook. They nibbled around the hook and ate the bait! We caught 0 fish.

We had dinner at a local seafood restaurant. The restaurant was over the water and it smelled like fish. We had mussels, snow crabs, veggie stir fry, long arm prawn, and water spinach. The food was nice. My mother and father was saying the price was very reasonable.

Day 3 - the Finale

After breakfast, we all went to the beach for water sports fun! First we did the Stryker again, but this time with my mother. We went faster than the day before. Then my brother and I went kneeboarding. It was hard to hold onto the board because it was bumpy and wavy. It was super fast because it was dragged by a jet ski.

After the kneeboarding, I went on a jet ski with my dad driving. It was better than Stryker because I was able to choose where to go.

Finally we all went on a banana boat. It is not a real banana, but an inflatable boat shaped like a banana. It went fast, but the jet ski got jammed with seaweed three times. I thought I could eat that seaweed! LOL!

We had a quick lunch in the city, then took a bus back to the ferry. Then it was a quick ride back to Singapore!

Did you know Batam needs tourists to make money? Because of the lockdown, people couldn't sell things and they couldn't make a livelihood. So instead of going to places like Bali, Phuket, or JB, go to Batam to spend money. It will save the people living in Batam.

GOOD BYE SEE YOU NEXT TIME!!!
