Bumboat to Pulau Ubin

Today I went to Pulau Ubin because my brother was going and I heard it was fun! First we boarded a bumboat

Bumboat comes from a Dutch word boomshuit. It means canoe.

10 minutes later, we landed in Pulau Ubin.

They explained the route in a meeting. First we walked over a sluice that used to block water so there was enough water for the farms.

Later we saw the discarded shell of a cicada.

We went to the German Girl Shrine. During WW1, 2 German families lived on Pulau Ubin. British and Germany were enemies so they captured the family because they thought they might be spies. A frightened 18 year old girl ran into the woods. A few days later some workers found her body. They built her a shrine to let the soul rest in peace.

Then we went to Ketam Quarry. Ketam means "crab" in Malay. Workers used to use the stones from the quarry to make buildings.

On the way back we had drinks at Ah Ma's Drink Stall.

Suddenly it started raining! And my brother got stuck in the rain so I had to wait at the stall while my dad went to get him. While waiting I watched a fisherman catch a catfish and an eel. Then my dad came back with my brother and his group. We took a taxi to the jetty and went back home.

It was an amazing adventure I like the bumboat the most!
